Step 1: Would you like to store or cool wine
There are basically two types of wine cabinets. This is a wine cooler and a wine storage cabinet.
Wine cooler
You use a wine cooler to cool wine at the ideal serving temperature, so you can serve it directly. This cabinet is therefore also called a 'serving cabinet'. By serving the wine at the right temperature, all the aromas come out best. The temperature range is usually between 8 and 18°C. Many wine coolers have multiple temperature zones. This is because all wines have their own ideal serving temperature. This way you can set the perfect serving temperature per zone for red and white wine, for example. Read all about the perfect serving temperatures per type of wine here. If you have more than one temperature zone then the wine cooler is also perfect to use partially to store wine and partially to cool wine.

Wine storage cabinet
A wine storage cabinet is used for storing and maturing / aging wine. The wine storage cabinet has no difference in temperature zones (warmer at the top vs. the bottom) but one constant temperature throughout the whole cabinet. This simulates the climate of a traditional wine cellar. In this way the wine storage cabinet offers a quiet, cool and stable environment, which makes it very suitable for storing and maturing wine for a long period of time. Because the ideal storage temperature for all types of wine is around 12°C, a wine storage cabinet usually does not have a large temperature range. After all, this is not necessary.
